Meet Librarian Matt Jenks

You might see me every now and then, a face which appears in the crowd and then vanishes just as quickly. Or perhaps you detect movement out of the corner of your eye while perusing the library stacks. You turn to look and there is nothing there. Where did I go?
For I am the original behind-the-scenes Librarian, Matthew Robert Jenks, Head of Collection Management and Cataloging Librarian for Franklin Pierce Law Center. You can find my office when you are not looking for it; it is that hidden. Actually, it’s on the second floor behind Collection Management but it doesn’t look out on any public areas, though my window is on the Courtyard (furthest in on the right).
I have just completed my 2nd year at Franklin Pierce. My wife and I moved back to New England from Florida, where I received my MLIS from Florida State University and worked as Animal Programs Librarian in the research facility behind Animal Kingdom. There I not only Cataloged but performed Circulation duties, Reference and research projects for the zoologists, research biologists, and Animal Keepers, tours in the public areas (a requirement for all “Cast Members”), and I made several presentations to the scientists on engaging in better and more effective research, with a particular focus on Google Scholar and how it can help you as a launching point for your research paper or project. In addition, I assisted with a metadata project, helping to reprogram Animal Kingdom’s Vision database so the Descriptive Metadata was more cohesive and resulted in not only better Recall but more focused Precision results.
During my time here at Franklin Pierce, I not only catalogue all monographs and media, but oversee all aspects of Collection Management – Government Documents, Serials, Bindery, Ordering and Purchasing etc. – to make sure everything is flowing smoothly, though we all run our own departments pretty effectively. In addition, I am currently on the Executive Board of the Association of New Hampshire Law Librarians (Acting Secretary) and I write a regular column for the American Association of Law Librarians’ Technical Services publication.
I would ask that anyone with a pressing need please come to me for anything. I can expedite the processing of any publications you are waiting on, take care of any special requests, or post items on the blog which you like to make visible to the public (though Tom and Melanie do this as well). I post new and anticipated publications on the blog on a regular basis, but I am flexible. I promise that if you look hard enough, you can find me, and I can be surprisingly energetic when I come out of my shell. I am only too proud that I am a member of the FPLC community, and only too ready to serve in any way that I can.
