The new Westlaw IP page on Westlaw: See only the resources you need

News from Westlaw Edge : Sometimes, innovation leads to complexity. Other times, it leads to simplicity. The Westlaw IP page goes in the latter direction.

This new tabbed page gives you quick access to more than 100 intellectual property databases, plus tools such as Westlaw Profiler®, KeySearch®, Claims Locator, and Patent KeyCite®—but without any clutter. (Definition of clutter: anything you don't need this minute.)

New Electronic Database Format

After careful study, the Library decided to rename "quickclicks" to a descriptive "Electronic Databases". All of the databases are the same but the menu on the left is now cleaner. You can search by title (formerly QuickClicks Alpha) by subject (QuickClicks) or by journal title (Journal Holdings, formerly Find an Article.)

Additionally our chat widget, via Meebo, now displays on the left side of most pages instead of only on select pages. Meebo allows instant messaging chat with librarians during library hours.

Law Library has subscribed to this widely used IP Case Summary Service on your behalf.

Hundreds of our current students and alums in law firms rely on JurisNotes.com electronic newsletters that are distributed via email and are in HTML format. (Please note: to take advantage of the bookmarks you should have your computer set to receive in HTML) Each newsletter provides (A) an introductory line for each case summarized (B) links to short and long summaries of the case and (C) a link to the full case text.

New Database: Foreign and International Law Resources Database

The PierceLaw Library's database collection may appear static, but each year new databases are added and removed based on content, use, cost, and faculty/student demand. The latest new database is HeinOnline's Foreign and International Law Resources Database (FILRD).

Where is this database?

FILRD is available via the main menu of HeinOnline and available directly here.

What is in this database?

Over 875,000 pages in 1600 volumes are included. Sample topics include:

In addition to these esoteric documents there are many more common resources such as the United Nations Judicial Yearbook, Digest of United States Practice in International Law, and Reports of International Arbitral Awards. A full list of titles is available here.

Remember that this database, and all databases, can be accessed anywhere by using your library username (first name, last name) and password (your library barcode numbers.)

Meebo

The Library has a new way to answer questions - Meebo. Simply type your questions into the box and a Pierce librarian will answer. The service is available during regular library hours and an away message will appear if there is no one available. Meebo boxes are currently available on the Quickclicks, Quickclicks Alpha, and Research Guide pages. In the future this service will be available throughout the Library website.

(not live! Check out the Meebo box here.)
